PADI Scuba Diver is a two course which certifies you to dive to 12M anywhere worldwide with a PADI dive professional. The Scuba Diver course is a good option if you don’t have enough time for the full PADI Open Water course.
Training involves some scuba diving theory, a shallow water skills session and two proper open water dives exploring the coral reefs and aquatic life around Koh Tao. At Simple Life Divers our experienced western instructors run the PADI Scuba Diver courses in small groups, so you’ll get plenty attention and qualify as a competent diver.
(The PADI Scuba Diver rating can be upgraded to the full PADI Open Water license at a later date, by completing a little extra theory, skills and two more open water dives).
Here at Simple Life Divers our experienced western dive instructors run all courses in small groups to make sure everyone gets plenty attention, qualifies as a competent diver & has a great time along the way! (And we can arrange private courses on request).

SCUBA DIVER COURSE: SCHEDULE
We’re flexible with the course schedule and can adapt it to fit your travel plans. But usually the Scuba Diver Course will be scheduled as follows:
DAY 1 – MORNING: ORIENTATION AND SCUBA DIVING THEORY
You’ll meet you instructor, complete some routine paperwork then get stuck into the scuba diving theory. We’ll be teaching you a range of topics including the effects of water pressure, how scuba diving equipment works and safe scuba diving practices.
We keep the theory session short, interactive and entertaining. You’ll watch some videos then review the content with your instructor to make sure you understand all the important concepts.
DAY 1 – AFTERNOON: SHALLOW WATER SCUBA SKILLS SESSION
Next it’s time to get wet!
We’ll cover how to assemble a scuba unit and run pre-dive safety checks before entering the water.
Beginning in very shallow water, your instructor will demonstrate scuba diving skills which you will practice, teaching you how to use the scuba unit and gain confidence underwater. Skills and techniques we’ll practice will include learning how to clear water your mask and regulator, procedures for ascents and descents, using hand signals to communicate and mastering buoyancy control to adjust our position and effectively maneuver underwater.
You’ll build up a lot of confidence underwater, ready for the next step…
DAY 2 – MORNING OR AFTERNOON (FLEXIBLE): OPEN WATER DIVES 1&2
The following day we’ll pack out scuba gear and head out for a half-day session aboard the Simple Life Divers boat.
During the trip we’ll visit two of Koh Tao’s dive sites where you’ll make your first two open water dives.
As part of the dives we’ll repeat some of the skills from the shallow water session to further increase your confidence, plus make an exploration of the coral reefs and sunken pinnacles of the dive sites. Expect to see lots of colorful corals and tropical aquatic life as we explore down to a maximum depth of 12M.
Following the dives we’ll return to the dive shop where we’ll complete you certification paperwork, after which you’ll be certified as a PADI Scuba Diver!
It’s possible for you to upgrade the PADI Scuba Diver rating to the full PADI Open Water Certification at a later date, by making a little extra theory, some additional skills in shallow water, and two more training dives in open water. You’ll be able to do so at any PADI dive center.

Q. WHAT’S THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN PADI SCUBA DIVER AND THE FULL PADI OPEN WATER COURSE?
The PADI Scuba Diver rating qualifies you to dive to 12M with a PADI dive professional (Divemaster or Instructor).
The PADI Open Water certification allows you to dive to 18M with a dive buddy.
If you have enough time, the PADI Open Water course is the one to go for; you get a more versatile certification, receive extra training and enjoy two additional open water dives as part of the course, and it’s only marginally more expensive. PADI Scuba Diver is a good option if you are short on time.
